What time is the service? Where do I park? Can I bring my kids? If your church has no website, or an old one that falls apart on a phone, you miss the chance to answer those questions.

This guide is for Korean churches in the US: what your website needs, and the ways you can build one.

Seven things every church website needs

1. Service times and directions

This is what visitors look for first. Put your Sunday, Wednesday and early-morning prayer times right on the front page, with your address, a map directions button and a line about parking.

2. A welcome for first-time guests

First-time guests mostly wonder, “What do I do when I get there?” Answer the usual questions in a short Q&A: what to wear, where children go during the service, and what happens afterward.

3. Sermon videos

If you already post sermons on YouTube, let people watch them right on your website. Add your livestream link too, so members who are sick or traveling can still worship with you.

4. Events and church news

Show upcoming events and announcements, and keep them current. When last Easter’s event is still on the front page, visitors assume nobody looks after the website.

5. Ministries

Introduce your Sunday school, youth and young adults, small groups, worship team, missions and prayer ministry. Families with children read the Sunday school section closely.

6. Online giving

If your church already uses an online giving service, link it to a Give button. Gifts go through that service straight to your church’s account, so the website never handles money.

7. Korean and English

This is what sets a Korean church website apart. Second-generation members, English-speaking spouses and new neighbors need pages they can read. A single button that switches between Korean and English serves first and second generations alike.

Four common mistakes

Leaving the domain with one volunteer: if the person who registered it leaves, no one may know the login or when it renews, and the church can lose its web address. If you manage it yourselves, use a shared church email and give two people access. If a company manages it for you, ask who renews it and what it costs to move it to your church later. Either way, turn on auto-renewal.

Only one person knows how to update it: when they’re busy or move on, even changing a service time gets hard. A site you can edit by clicking on the page lets several people share the work.

Only checking on a computer: most visitors use a phone. After every change, look at it on a phone too.

Old information: a changed service time, a past event or a phone number nobody answers causes more confusion than having no website at all.

Three ways to build it

1. Already on WordPress? Use our free church design

Lamplight, the church design we built, is free. It already has sections for service times, first-time guests, sermons, ministries, events, meet the pastor and giving. You’ll need hosting with WordPress installed; the Lamplight guide walks you through setup.

2. Run it yourself, without installing anything: the self-managed plan

Pick a design and we open your church website for you, with your church’s name, logo, service times and directions in Korean and English. After that, your church edits the text and photos and posts news itself, while we look after the server, security and backups. It’s $150 to set up and $7 a month, or $250 to set up if we also buy and connect a domain for you. See the self-managed plan. A free plan that starts on a free web address from us is also on the way, and you can join its waitlist on the same page.

3. Let us build and manage it for you

No computer skills needed. We build a Korean and English website with your church’s name, logo, photos, service times and ministries, connect your domain, and look after it after launch, including a sermon link every week and up to 4 change requests a month. It’s $250 to set up and $25 a month. We work by email, or by text if you leave your number.

Start by choosing a design

Whichever way you choose, it’s easier to decide once you can see it. Pick one of eight colors and a layout for the welcome, sermons and events sections to preview your church’s website.

Choose a design

Request a free consultation

Questions?
